How to Make Chocolate Covered Strawberry Rice Krispies Treats
What You Need to Make This Recipe
To make this recipe you will need original Rice Krispies cereal, dehydrated strawberries, chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos), marshmallows, butter, and chocolate chips.
Prep!
Add the dehydrated strawberries to a zip top bag and seal. Tap it lightly with a rolling pin to break the strawberries into small pieces. Alternatively, you can chop them with a knife.
You want a variety of sizes so that the strawberry flavor gets incorporated all throughout the bars.
Repeat this step with the chocolate sandwich cookies.
Coat the inside of an 8 x 8-inch baking dish with butter.
Tip: you can use a larger baking dish for thinner Rice Krispies Treats, if desired.
Create!
In a large microwave safe bowl, add the butter and the entire bag of marshmallows. Microwave for 2 minutes, stir, then microwave for an additional minute and stir again so that everything is smooth and combined.
Meanwhile, combine the Rice Krispies cereal, strawberries, and cookies in a medium bowl.
Using a plastic or silicone spoon or spatula, stir the Rice Krispies mixture into the marshmallow mixture.
Using lightly dampened hands, press the mixture into the buttered baking dish.
Tip: dampening your hands will prevent the marshmallow from sticking to your hands.
Place chocolate chips in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on 10 second increments, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
Drizzle the melted chocolate on top.
Present!
One the chocolate is set, cut the treats into bars and serve.
Tips and Techniques for the Best Rice Krispies Treats
- Use a smaller pan, like an 8×8-inch pan, for thicker treats, as shown in the photos. For thinner treats, use a larger pan.
- Dampen your hands with water before you push the mixture into a baking dish. This will prevent the marshmallow from sticking to your hands.
- Store leftovers in an air-tight container, or individually wrapped in plastic wrap, at room temperature. Use within 2 days for the best results.
FAQ’s
- Why are my Rice Krispies Treats hard? If you over-cook the marshmallows and butter, it will cause it to harden more. Cook until it’s just melted and stir to blend before adding the cereal.
- Can you freeze Rice Krispies Treats? Yes. Wrap the treats individually with foil or plastic wrap and store in the freezer for up to 1-2 months.
