Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes (Baked Whole)

A classic steakhouse side dish, air fryer sweet potatoes cook perfectly and only take 30 minutes to make. You won’t even be able to tell that they weren’t baked in an oven!

Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes are a healthy side dish that is the perfect recipe to serve with just about any meal that you prepare. They taste amazing alongside of steak, pork, or chicken.

The air fryer is the best way to bake sweet potatoes fast. They always comes out creamy inside with a crisp skin and taste just as good as if they spent an hour in the oven.

Sweet potatoes are super easy to make in the air fryer. You literally just prep the sweet potatoes, place them in the air fryer, and let it do all the work for you.

This is the best sweet potato recipe because here are minimal ingredients and almost no prep time. When you bake sweet potatoes in the air fryer, they cook faster than in the oven. Plus, it’s not as messy as baking in the oven.

How To Cook Sweet Potatoes In An Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 2 medium-large sweet potatoes: scrubbed, rinsed clean and patted dry. Be sure to choose sweet potatoes that will easily fit into your air fryer basket.
  • 1 teaspoon olive or avocado oil: you could also use a spray oil.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional)

Prep!

Scrub and rinse the sweet potatoes. Pat dry.

Create!

Rub the oil onto the skins of the sweet potatoes. Sprinkle with salt, if desired.

Place the sweet potatoes into the air fryer, leaving a little space between them. Cook on 400°F for 30 minutes, turning halfway.

Check for doneness by inserting a sharp knife into the center. If it slides through easily, they are done. If not, continue to cook as needed. 

Chef’s Tip: cook time will vary depending on the size of the sweet potatoes. 

Allow the sweet potatoes to cool some before removing from the air fryer.

Tips and Techniques

  • Choose sweet potatoes that will easily fit into your air fryer. The air fryer used for this recipe was 4.1 liters. You may be able to cook more than 2 sweet potatoes depending on the size of your air fryer, but the cook time may increase.
  • Be sure to scrub and rinse the sweet potatoes before air frying, especially if you are planning to eat the skin.
  • Cook time will vary depending on the size of the potatoes. Check for doneness after 30 minutes. Sweet potatoes are done when a sharp knife can be inserted easily into the center of a potato.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Consume within 3-5 days.

You only have to cook sweet potatoes for about 30 minutes in the air fryer. Turn them over halfway through the cooking time.
