If my husband is cooking one of his favorite meals, like Sweet Plantain Lasagna, odds are pretty good that he is going to be adding Adobo Seasoning.

His food always turns out delicious, so I’ve definitely also developed a taste for this popular spice blend.

Once I learned that Adobo seasoning is a blend of just a handful of herbs and spices, it was pretty easy to make our own, as needed.

Why This Recipe Works

It’s super quick and easy to make your own homemade spice blends. This Adobo Seasoning is made with just 5 ingredients.

This blend tastes just as good as store-bought versions, but doesn’t contain any additional additives.

You can make a full batch to store in your pantry to use as needed, or cut the recipe to make just as much as you need for a single recipe. You can adjust the serving size in the recipe card below.

Step-By-Step Instructions

Ingredients

Ingredients needed for homemade adobo seasoning on small spoons on a marble background with text overlay.

  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric

Chef’s Tip: some adobo recipes include onion powder, cumin, and/or paprika. You can experiment to get the flavor you want. If you need a pepper-free adobo, simply omit the black pepper from this recipe.

The entire recipe and instructions can also be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. You can also print the recipe from the card, if needed.
