I love goat cheese. It’s tangy flavor definitely makes it an acquired taste, but adding some additional flavors to it balances it out nicely.

For this Whipped Goat Cheese Dip I added fresh rosemary, a little lemon juice and a tiny bit of crushed red pepper flakes then topped it with crisp bacon, chewy dates and a drizzle of sweet maple syrup.

This dip is the perfect combination of savory and sweet with a bit of tanginess and a hint of spice.

Why This Recipe Works

It’s a quick and easy dip recipe to make. This recipe is as simple as blending together a few ingredients, cooking a little bacon and assembling. It can be made ahead of time, if needed.

This recipe has incredible flavor. Sweet, savory, tangy and spicy – this dip has it all!

The ingredients can be adapted to suite your own tastes. Don’t like rosemary? Try a different fresh herb like thyme or chives. If you don’t want any spice or you want more spice, you can omit or increase the amount of crushed red pepper. The maple syrup can be swapped out for honey or hot honey.

Step-By-Step Instructions

Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make whipped goat cheese dip with maple bacon and dates on a gray background with text overlay.

  • 8 ounces goat cheese (room temperature): I use plain goat cheese, but you can definitely use an herb and garlic flavor, if you’d like.
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary (roughly chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (fresh squeezed)
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional): this amount gives the dip just a hint of spice, but you can omit it for a completely mild dip or increase it for more spiciness.
  • 6 slices bacon (diced)
  • 6 Medjool dates (pitted and diced)
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup: you can use honey or hot honey, if preferred.

The entire recipe and instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. You can print the recipe from the card, if needed.

Prep!

Set the goat and cream cheeses out to come to room temperature about an hour ahead of time.

Roughly chop the rosemary, dice the dates and dice the bacon. Squeeze 1 tablespoon of lemon juice from a lemon.

Create!

Whipped goat cheese and cream cheese in the bowl of a food processor on a light background.

Add the goat cheese, cream cheese, rosemary, lemon juice and crushed red pepper to the bowl of a food processor fitted with a blade. Process until smooth and creamy.

Transfer the cheese mixture to a serving dish. Set aside.

Bacon and dates cooked in a black skillet over a light background.

Cook the bacon in a medium skillet over medium heat until crisp, stirring often. Drain any excess bacon grease from the pan.

Add the dates to the pan and cook an additional minute or two to warm.

Top the goat cheese dip with the bacon and dates. You can mix some in, if preferred.
