Homemade Soft Pretzels

Buttery homemade soft pretzels taste fresher and more delicious than any mall pretzel you've eaten. These traditional, German-style pretzels are perfect to serve as an appetizer paired with a creamy dip. It's an easy recipe to make with ingredients already in your pantry and a fun baking project to do with friends and family.

Homemade Soft Pretzels Ingredients

Proof The Yeast

Whisk together warm water, yeast and brown sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer. Let sit for 5 minutes

01

Make The Dough

Make the dough by adding salt, butter and flour. Cover and leave in a warm area to rise for 1 hour.

02

Twist The Pretzels

Divide the dough into 8 portions. Roll into 18-inch ropes. Shape like a horseshoe then twist the ends together twice.

03

Twist The Pretzels

Fold the ends up to the top of the “U.” Repeat with the remaining dough.

04

Boil The Pretzels

Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds in baking soda and water then place on a baking sheet.

05

Bake The Pretzels

Sprinkle on a pinch of coarse sea salt. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.

06

Finish The Pretzels

Remove from oven and brush on melted butter. Serve as is, or with your favorite dip.
