Why This Recipe Works
Homemade tzatziki is easy to make and only takes around 10 minutes to prepare.
It’s better than store-bought sauce because it’s made with fresh ingredients and you can avoid certain ingredients, like carrageenan, by choosing) a Greek yogurt, like Chobani brand. Many pre-packaged tzatziki sauces do have carrageenan or preservatives.
The recipe amounts and ingredients are very adaptable – you can alter most to suit your own personal tastes.
Step-By-Step Instructions
Ingredients
- 1/2 cucumber (grated and pressed, about 1/2 cup packed): English cucumbers are preferred because they have thin skin that doesn’t need to be peeled and not so many seeds. If you use a regular cucumber, you should peel it and remove the seeds before grating it.
- 1 cup Greek yogurt (full fat is best)
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil: for a lower calorie version, you can omit the oil.
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
