The Southside Cocktail, or South Side Cocktail, is a light, refreshing drink that is very similar to a gimlet with added mint. It’s also quite like a mint julep but is made with gin rather than bourbon.
If you are familiar with either of those cocktails, you’ll likely enjoy this one too.
It’s made with gin, lime, mint and simple syrup giving it a gin-forward, sweet flavor, though the lime and mint come through nicely.
Why This Recipe Works
It’s very easy to prepare. This cocktail requires just 4 ingredients and a few minutes to mix up.
The flavor is light and fresh with a delicious balance of sweet and sour. It is an especially great choice during the warmer months of spring and summer.
You can easily adjust the flavor to suite you own tastes. You can make it sweeter or add more lime for a bright, citrusy kick. Instead of lime, lemon can be used or a mix of the two.
Step-By-Step Instructions
Ingredients
- 5-10 mint leaves
- 1 ounce simple syrup
- 2 ounces gin
- 1 ounce lime juice (or lemon juice or a 50/50 mix of the two): use fresh squeezed lime (or lemon) juice for the best flavor.
- mint sprigs (for garnish)
Chef’s Tip: you can adjust the sweet-sour balance of this recipe by using more or less lime juice and simple syrup to taste.
The entire recipe and instructions can also be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. You can also print the recipe from the card, if needed.
