I first made this recipe about 4 years ago. Actually, it was nothing like the recipe it is now, except for the chocolate and raspberry flavor. It was more like pudding and not very appetizing looking.
I’ve come a long way and since I’ve been making more smoothies, like this recently posted Keto Blueberry Smoothie, I felt it was beyond time to improve on this one.
This Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie is now lighter, more flavorful, and even easier to make. It still has the same chocolate-raspberry flavor, but in a much more drink-able form.
Why This Recipe Works
This smoothie is made with fresh berries, an avocado, unsweetened almond milk, and chocolate protein powder to make it thick and creamy, give it so much flavor, and add some extra healthy benefits too!
It might seem kind of odd to throw an avocado in the mix, but you don’t really taste it. It just makes the smoothie thick and creamy.
This smoothie makes it easy to whip up a delicious, healthy breakfast in just minutes. It’s the perfect way to start a bright, spring or summer morning. I mean, who doesn’t appreciate chocolate for breakfast??
This recipe is made to be low carb and keto friendly. There are just 6 net carbs per serving. It’s also gluten free and can be made dairy-free or vegan depending on the type of protein that you use.
How To Make A Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie
What You Need To Make This Recipe
To make this recipe, you will need:
- 1 cup fresh raspberries
- 1 avocado (pitted and skin removed)
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
- lemon juice (optional – I don’t use it, but I know some people love to pair it with raspberries)
Chef’s Tip: if you would like for your smoothie to be extra chocolaty, you can use unsweetened chocolate almond milk. It’s a bit harder to find it unsweetened, but I do know that the Almond Breeze brand does make it.
Also, chocolate protein can vary quite a bit brand to brand. I love Ancient Nutrition’s Multi-Collagen in chocolate flavor for this recipe. It doesn’t have any grittiness or weird flavor and it has a small amount of stevia in it to help sweeten the recipe.
You can use a dairy-free protein powder or vegan protein powder, if needed. Ancient Nutrition also has a plant-based protein in chocolate that is also dairy-free.
The entire recipe and instructions can also be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. You can also print the recipe from the card, if needed.
