Pineapple Water is a subtlety flavored, refreshing beverage that is perfect for a hot summer day. It’s made with just 2 or 3 ingredients, depending on how sweet you prefer it, and can be modified by adding additional fruits, if desired.

Pineapple Water, similar to Mexican agua fresca, is a simple fruit-infused beverage that is ideal for the summer months.

It’s made by blending together chunks of ripe, juicy pineapple with water, then straining out any pulp so it’s smooth and delicious.

Serve it at summer cookouts and barbecues, enjoy a glass by the pool on a hot summer day, or sip it anytime you need a refreshing pick-me-up. It really is like sunshine in a cup!

Why This Recipe Works

Making Pineapple Water is very quick and easy. You only need 2 or 3 ingredients, depending on if you want to add sweetener, and a few minutes to make a pitcher.

It’s a non-alcoholic, fresh, fun and suitable summer drink for both adults and children.

The recipe is very easy to modify. Try it with added fruits like cucumber and lime juice, or use different fruits all together. For a fizzy drink, use sparkling water instead of still. You can also rim the glass. Tajin, cayenne pepper or colored sugar are all great options.

Step-By-Step Instructions

Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make pineapple water on a gray background with text overlay.

  • 1/2 pineapple (skin removed, cut into cubes, about 2 cups): a ripe pineapple is ideal, though sugar or sweetener can be added to the water if needed.
  • 4 cups water: for a different spin, try sparkling water.
  • 1/4-1/2 cup sugar (or honey, agave syrup or simple syrup, optional): while stirring in sugar is easiest, a liquid sweetener won’t be as grainy if you add it to the water.

The entire recipe and instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. You can print the recipe from the card, if needed.

Prep!

Core, remove skin, and dice the pineapple until you have 2 cups. This will be about half of a pineapple.

Create!

Blended pineapple and water in a blender canister.

Place the pineapple and half of the water in a blender and purée until smooth.

Strain through a fine mesh sieve or a cheesecloth-lined colander.

Stir in remaining water, or as much water as you’d like until the desired strength of pineapple is reached.

Taste and add sugar or sweetener of choice, if desired. Start with a small amount and add gradually until desired level of sweetness is reached. You may or may not want to add sweetener depending on how ripe your pineapple is.

Present!

Two glasses of pineapple water lined with tajin with a pineapple in the background.

Serve in a glass over ice. Garnish with a wedge of pineapple, if desired.

Chef’s Tip: you can rim the glass with lime juice and tajin or sugar for an extra punch of flavor.

Tips and Techniques

  • Adding sugar or another sweetener is optional. It just depends on how ripe the pineapple is or how sweet you prefer your beverages to be. While stirring in granulated sugar is easiest, a liquid sugar like honey, agave or simple syrup will blend in better.
  • There are an endless amount of variations you can make from this recipe. You can add other fruits, or use different fruit entirely. Sparkling water can be used in place of still water for a fizzy beverage. The rim can be lined with lime juice and tajin, sugar or even cayenne pepper to give the beverage a little something extra with every sip.
  • Keep Pineapple Water in the refrigerator. Consume within one day for the best results, or cover tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Re-stir before serving.
