Over the last few months, we have been overloaded with many different varieties of wild-caught salmon. This year was our first year as members of Sitka Salmon Shares, and although they send a variety of seafood, there are 3 months where you receive nothing but salmon (with our share plan – other plans do vary).
Obviously, this has meant coming up with as many different ways to prepare salmon as possible. My go-to recipes are Lemon Garlic Salmon Cakes and Blackened Salmon Wraps, but I wanted something a little sweeter this time around.
Maple Bourbon Salmon fits the bill perfectly. The glaze is made with both pure maple syrup and brown sugar with just enough bourbon whisky that it comes through in every bite.

How To Make Maple Bourbon Salmon
Ingredients
The entire recipe and instructions can also be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. You can also print the recipe from the card, if needed.
- Use high quality salmon for the best quality and flavor. Wild caught is best. I used king salmon for this recipe, but any variety that you enjoy will work.
- Pure maple syrup works best in this recipe.
Prep!
If you are using frozen salmon, be sure it’s fully thawed first.
Preheat oven to 425°F.
Create!
Season salmon with salt and pepper and place on a lightly oiled baking sheet.
Roast for 8-12 minutes, depending on the thickness of your salmon, or until opaque and can easily be flaked with a fork.
Meanwhile, add the maple syrup, brown sugar, and bourbon to a small saucepan.
Heat on medium until well blended. Keep warm, stirring as needed, until the salmon is done cooking.
Chef’s Tip: be careful not to boil the mixture, as it can thicken and crystalize. The glaze will also set as it cools. It can be rewarmed to thin it, as needed.
Present!
When the salmon is done roasting, drizzle on the glaze.
Garnish with minced parsley or thin slices of green onion, if desired.
Tips and Techniques
- Always purchase high-quality salmon for the best flavor. Wild caught salmon is a healthier choice and tastes better too.
- Use pure maple syrup for the best results.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Use within 3 days.
