There’s something addictive about the combination of juicy mango and fiery habanero peppers. The sweetness hits first, then the heat builds slowly and lingers just enough to keep you coming back for more. This Mango Habanero Hot Sauce is the kind of recipe you make once and then find yourself putting on everything.

It’s the same sauce used on our Mango Habanero Wings.

What Is Mango Habanero Hot Sauce?

Mango Habanero Hot Sauce is a blended and simmered sauce made from ripe mango, habanero peppers, vinegar and aromatics. It combines natural fruit sweetness with intense chili heat, creating a smooth, pourable sauce that works as a glaze, dip or finishing drizzle.

  • 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon honey

Pour the sauce into a small pot. Heat over medium-low to simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently.

Strain the sauce through a fine-mesh sieve into a jar or bowl. Straining is optional, but does help remove any remaining seeds or mango pulp from the sauce.

Present!

Cool, then use as desired.

Tips and Techniques

  • Wear gloves when handling habanero peppers to avoid skin irritation.
  • For a smoother sauce, blend longer before simmering.
  • Straining removes seeds and pulp for a smoother texture.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a tablespoon of water at a time to thin it.
  • Simmering helps mellow the sharpness of the vinegar and garlic.
  • For deeper flavor, let the sauce rest 1-2 days before using.

Variations

  • Add pineapple for a sweeter tropical twist.
  • Swap honey for maple syrup for a slightly different flavor profile.
  • Add a pinch of smoked paprika for a subtle smoky flavor.
  • Stir in a little ginger for extra depth and warmth.

Storage

Store Mango Habanero Hot Sauce in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. For longer storage, you can freeze it in small portions and thaw as needed.

FAQs

How spicy is Mango Habanero Hot Sauce?

It ranges from moderately hot to very hot depending on how many habanero peppers you use.

Can I make this sauce milder?

Yes. Use only 1 pepper and remove the seeds to reduce heat.

Do I have to strain the sauce?

No, but straining gives a smoother, more refined consistency.

Can I use frozen mango?

Yes. Just thaw it first and drain any excess liquid.

Why simmer the sauce?

Simmering blends the flavors and softens the raw bite of garlic and vinegar.

Can I use a different pepper?

Yes. Try jalapeño or serrano peppers for a milder version.
