Coleslaw is one of those foods that I never wanted to eat as a kid, and now I love it. I think I used to get it confused with sauerkraut, which I still don’t eat.
It’s such a classic summer recipe to have on top of pulled pork or as a barbecue side dish.
You might assume that coleslaw is already keto friendly, but it’s not. Most coleslaw has a good amount of added sugar and contains ingredients that some stricter keto dieters may want to avoid, like carrots and soy.
Luckily, it is actually a really easy recipe to make keto-friendly without sacrificing the traditional flavor you know and love.
Why This Recipe Works
Keto Coleslaw is really not that different at all from traditional coleslaw. In fact, the flavor is almost identical to classic coleslaw.
The carrots are eliminated and sugar is replaced by a monk fruit and erythritol blend (or whatever zero carb sweetener that you prefer). Stricter keto dieters may want to be sure to use a keto-friendly mayonnaise to avoid soy, as well.
It’s a very quick and easy recipe. You can make it from scratch rather than buying bagged shredded cabbage, although buying pre-shredded cabbage will save you a few minutes.
This recipe is easily adjustable to suit your own tastes.
There is only 1 net carb per serving and it’s naturally gluten free.
How To Make Keto Coleslaw
Ingredients
- 4-5 cups cabbage, thinly sliced (you can use green, purple or a combination)
- 1/2 cup keto mayonnaise (I like Sir Kensington’s)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon monk fruit/erythritol blend, or equivalent (I use Lakanto classic)
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seed (* not celery salt)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper (or to taste)

Prep!
Thinly slice or dice the cabbage.
Chef’s Tip: you can use pre-shredded bagged cabbage (if your store carries one without carrots) to save a few minutes time.
Create!
Add the shredded cabbage to a medium bowl. Set aside.
Mix the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, monk fruit, celery seed, salt, and pepper in a small bowl until well combined.
Taste and adjust the seasoning to your liking.
Chef’s Tip: I always mix the coleslaw dressing in a separate bowl so that it’s easier to blend well and adjust, as needed.
Pour the coleslaw dressing into the bowl with the shredded cabbage and toss to coat the cabbage.
Present!
Serve immediately.
