These patriotic Fruit Kabobs are the perfect treat for adults and kids this summer. Fresh fruit is combined with classic Rice Krispies Treats™ and sprinkles for a fun and easy, grab-and-go dessert.
At the beginning of the year, I made a list of all the recipes I wanted to make this year. I made sure to add plenty of ideas for holiday recipes.
These Fruit Kabobs are in a red, white(-ish), and blue color scheme—making them perfect for the 4th of July.
Strawberries are used for the red component, blueberries are the blue component, and classic Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® Cereal that are mixed with fun red, white, and blue sprinkles, make up the white component.
I bought the large box of Rice Krispies® Cereal on my regular trip to Giant Food (I have loved being able to shop there since we moved last fall – they have everything!) because my kids and fiancé love them, and I love making Rice Krispies Treats™.

Why This Recipe Works
This is a fun, easy recipe. It’s a great one to have your kids help with. They can help with everything, depending on their ages, from making the Rice Krispies Treats™, to mixing in the sprinkles, to assembling the kabobs.
For some reason, kids love fruit on a stick, and parents love when their kids eat more fruit – it’s a win-win!
You can make this recipe pretty quickly. Rice Krispies Treats™ taste best the day they are made, and cut fruit can lose its firmness pretty quickly, so you’ll want to assemble these right before setting them out to eat.
While these colorful kabobs are perfect for all of the patriotic holidays, they are also a delicious, fresh fruit treat option all summer long!
How To Make Fruit Kabobs
What You Need To Make This Recipe
To make this recipe, you will need:
- 10 ounce bag of marshmallows
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 6 cups Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® Cereal
- red, white, and blue sprinkles (optional)
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 2 cups strawberries
Tip: use fresh, but firm, fruit. Frozen or overly ripened fruit will not stay on the kabob very well.
The entire recipe and instructions can also be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. You can also print the recipe from the card, if needed.
Prep!
Rinse the berries and pay dry with paper towels. Cut larger strawberries into 1/2-inch thick slices.
Line an 8 x 8-inch baking pan with parchment or wax paper.
Create!
Place the marshmallows and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 2 minutes, stir, and heat an additional minute.
Stir in the Rice Krispies® Cereal and sprinkles until evenly coated.
Press the mixture firmly into the baking pan using lightly dampened hands or wax paper to prevent it from sticking to your fingers.
Allow to fully cool, then cut the Rice Krispies Treats™ into 25 squares.
Tip: to speed up the cooling process and make the treats easier to cut, place the pan in the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
Assemble the Fruit Kabobs by pushing one Rice Krispies Treats™ square onto the kabob, leaving a few inches at the bottom to hold the skewer.
Next, add a strawberry, then 2-3 blueberries. Repeat this pattern again and end with a Rice Krispies Treat™.
Present!
Lay the Fruit Kabobs out on a serving tray for guests to help themselves.
Tip: due to the weight of these particular kabobs, they are best displayed laying flat.
Tips and Techniques
- Use fresh, firm fruit for the best results.
- Place the Rice Krispies Treats™ in the freezer for 15-20 minutes to cool them faster and make them easier to cut.
- Display these kabobs flat on a serving tray for best results.
- Rice Krispies Treats™ taste best the day they are made, but they can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. It is not recommended to store assembled kabobs.
FAQ’s
How Do You Display Fruit Kabobs?
Some fruit kabobs can be displayed upright in a container, while others are best displayed flat on a large serving tray, depending on the weight.
Ideally, they should be displayed so that they can be picked up without having to touch the fruit, but rather the exposed end of the skewer.
How Do You Keep Fruit Kabobs Fresh?
Fruit Kabobs taste best the day they are assembled. Fruit will soften after being cut and may slide off the kabobs if stored too long.
If you have leftover Fruit Kabobs, it’s best to remove the fruit from the skewers and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Where Do You Buy Skewers For Fruit Kabobs?
Most “big box” stores, craft stores, party stores, and some grocery stores—including some Giant Food locations—carry bamboo skewers. You can also easily find them online if needed.
