One of our favorite ways to spend time as a family is to have a family movie night camp out – right in our living room!
My oldest son, Jaxon, loves watching movies as a family. He will ask us almost every weekend if we can watch a movie and camp out in the living room. We don’t allow it every weekend, but we do have a family movie night camp out at least once a month!
I thought it would be fun to share how we go about making our family movie night camp out fun for everyone! From choosing the movie, to setting up the actual “camp,” to the movie night snacks (my favorite part) we’ve got it down pat!
Family Movie Night Camp Out
Throwing together a fun family movie night camp out is super easy! Because there are just a few simple steps, this is a great way to regularly spend time together as a family in a way that everyone enjoys!
Step 1: Choosing the Movie
Choosing a movie to watch is probably super easy for some families. Not ours. There are two adults, a nine year old, and a 2-year-old. We have our 9-year-old choose several movies he would like to watch. Then, we pick one that isn’t going to drive the adults crazy, and isn’t too scary for the youngest.
One movie we are all looking forward to seeing (again!) is Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. The movie is about two friends, Harold and George, who connect through a love of writing and creativity. It really has a lot of heart. It’s available for pre-order from Walmart. My son is so excited to see the Captain Underpants movie again that we are going to watch it for his outdoor movie birthday party in a few weeks! We are literally taking our family movie night camp out outdoors with all our family and friends!
The Captain Underpants DVD will be available in Walmart stores 9/12! Be sure to reserve your copy now by pre-ordering today! While supplies last.
Step 2: Setting Up Camp
The kids really love setting up camp in the middle of our living room. Usually, Jaxon brings down his bed tent and we throw lots of blankets and pillows inside for the kids. Other times they like to use sleeping bags and build a blanket fort all around them.
I’ve slept on the floor with them a few times, but my fiancé and I much prefer the comfort of the couch!
Step 3: Snacks!
No family movie night camp out is complete with out snacks! Some of our favorite movie night snacks are Pop Secret popcorn and Lance Crackers!
Popcorn and movies go hand in hand and it’s one of Jaxon’s favorite snacks even when we aren’t watching movies! We love the great butter taste of PopSecret Popcorn so I always stock up when I’m shopping at Walmart! The kettle corn variety is also a favorite around here! It’s such a delicious, high-quality snack that I can feel good about sharing with my family.
Since, my youngest can’t eat popcorn yet, I also make sure to pick up plenty of Lance Crackers from Walmart as well. Lance has been making little sandwiches with two awesome crackers on the outside, and real peanut butter or real cheese in between for over 100 years! I grew up eating these crackers so it’s really fun to get to share them with my boys! I love that there is 5 grams of protein and that they don’t use high fructose corn syrup. We love them all, but Toast Chee Peanut Butter have always been my favorite!
When it comes to drinks, I would highly recommend sticking to water for everyone. Kids + camping out on the floor + liquids is not usually a good combination!
That’s it! Movie nights are so easy and fun! The kids love them, as well as the adults! I hope you enjoyed seeing how we do a family movie night camp out and that it inspires you to do the same with your family!
