A Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie is a sweet, delicious way to start the day. It’s made with healthy, flavorful ingredients and can be enjoyed while following a low carb or keto diet. It’s also gluten free and can easily be made dairy-free or vegan, if needed.

I first made this recipe about 4 years ago. Actually, it was nothing like the recipe it is now, except for the chocolate and raspberry flavor. It was more like pudding and not very appetizing looking.

I’ve come a long way and since I’ve been making more smoothies, like this recently posted Keto Blueberry Smoothie, I felt it was beyond time to improve on this one.

This Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie is now lighter, more flavorful, and even easier to make. It still has the same chocolate-raspberry flavor, but in a much more drink-able form.

Why This Recipe Works

This smoothie is made with fresh berries, an avocado, unsweetened almond milk, and chocolate protein powder to make it thick and creamy, give it so much flavor, and add some extra healthy benefits too!

It might seem kind of odd to throw an avocado in the mix, but you don’t really taste it. It just makes the smoothie thick and creamy.

This smoothie makes it easy to whip up a delicious, healthy breakfast in just minutes. It’s the perfect way to start a bright, spring or summer morning. I mean, who doesn’t appreciate chocolate for breakfast??

This recipe is made to be low carb and keto friendly.  There are just 6 net carbs per serving. It’s also gluten free and can be made dairy-free or vegan depending on the type of protein that you use.

How To Make A Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie

What You Need To Make This Recipe

Ingredients to make a chocolate raspberry smoothie in glass bowls on a white background

To make this recipe, you will need:

  • 1 cup fresh raspberries
  • 1 avocado (pitted and skin removed)
  • 1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • lemon juice (optional – I don’t use it, but I know some people love to pair it with raspberries)

Chef’s Tip: if you would like for your smoothie to be extra chocolaty, you can use unsweetened chocolate almond milk. It’s a bit harder to find it unsweetened, but I do know that the Almond Breeze brand does make it.

Also, chocolate protein can vary quite a bit brand to brand. I love Ancient Nutrition’s Multi-Collagen in chocolate flavor for this recipe. It doesn’t have any grittiness or weird flavor and it has a small amount of stevia in it to help sweeten the recipe.

You can use a dairy-free protein powder or vegan protein powder, if needed. Ancient Nutrition also has a plant-based protein in chocolate that is also dairy-free.

The entire recipe and instructions can also be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. You can also print the recipe from the card, if needed.

Prep!

Just set up your blender and you’re ready to go.

Create!

Add the raspberries, avocado, almond milk, and protein powder to a blender canister or smoothie cup attachment for your blender.

Blend on high until everything is well-combined and smooth.

Taste and adjust ingredients, as preferred.

Present!

Top with a couple of extra raspberries and some sugar-free chocolate shavings or chips, insert a straw, and enjoy.

Tips and Techniques

  • For a more chocolaty smoothie, use unsweetened chocolate almond milk.
  • You can use any protein powder that you like. If you use a dairy free or vegan protein powder, the recipe will be completely dairy free or vegan.
  • Smoothies are enjoyed best when freshly made, but can be kept in the refrigerator or freezer and re-blended before serving at a later time.

FAQ’s

Can You Freeze A Smoothie?

You can freeze smoothies in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Allow to thaw and stir well before enjoying.

Are Raspberries Keto?

1 cup of raspberries has 15 grams of total carbohydrates, but 8 grams are fiber. This gives you only 7 net carbs in 1 cup.

This recipe is for 2 servings, with each serving having approximately 1/2 cup of raspberries which provides 3.5 net carbs.

It’s definitely a healthier way to satisfy your chocolate craving! At the end of my first pregnancy, I had the worst sweet tooth – it’s dangerous when you’re 8.5 months along and decide you’re just going to eat whatever you want! Wish I knew of options like this back then!!

I’m so glad you posted this, for two reasons. First I’ve been thinking of getting something from Aloha. Second, I’m a huge lover for chocolate and I’m always begging my husband to make a smoothie to satisfy my craving.
