After having an abundance of cherry tomatoes in my garden, I made so many batches of homemade tomato soup, Tomato Confit and tomato sauce to freeze, but I also made this super quick Cherry Tomato Pasta on repeat all summer.
It’s not only quick and easy, but very flavorful. I prefer the sweeter taste of cherry tomatoes, but sometimes use a mix of different varieties for a pop of color or more complex flavor profile.
All you need to add to the sauce is a few cloves of garlic and a little basil for a light, fresh homemade pasta sauce to toss with any type of noodles that you like.
Burrata cheese is like icing on a cake – who doesn’t love this creamy cheese?!
Why This Recipe Works
This is a very simple recipe. You need just 8 ingredients, including salt and pepper, and about 20 minutes to prepare.
It’s a light dish made with fresh ingredients that results in a flavorful meal.
You can easily modify this recipe to suite your own tastes or needs. Any pasta shape can work, even stuffed pastas. You can also use different types of tomatoes, add Parmesan cheese or a little heavy cream to the sauce, or try different fresh herbs in addition to, or instead of, the fresh basil.
Step-By-Step Instructions

- 8 ounces bucatini pasta: or any shape pasta that you like.
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 24 ounces cherry tomatoes: or similar tomato varieties.
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil (minced): you can use more for garnish, if desired.

The entire recipe and instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. You can print the recipe from the card, if needed.
Prep!
Mincing the garlic is the only prep work for this recipe.
Create!
Cook your pasta until all dente, according to the directions on the package. Reserve 1 cup of the pasta water before draining.
Heat the olive oil in a large, deep skillet on medium heat. Add the tomatoes and cook, stirring occasionally, until they soften, about 3-4 minutes.
Stir in the garlic and cook, stirring often, until the tomatoes burst and create a sauce. You can help them along by using the back of a spoon to gently break them.
Mix the cooked pasta into the sauce, adding the reserved pasta water, as needed.
When plating, top each serving of pasta with an equal amount of burrata. Eight ounces of burrata usually comes in 2 larger balls, so you will need to cut each one in half.
Present!
Garnish with extra fresh basil and serve.
