A while back I made a recipe for Extreme Bacon Jalapeño Poppers with bacon in and around each pepper.

I get asked to make them all the time (they are pretty amazing) but love to change things up.

So, I came up with fun, new jalapeño popper recipe. Something completely different but equally as amazing – Bacon & Blue Cheeseburger Jalapeño Poppers!

Why This Recipe Works

Jalapeño Poppers are a really easy recipe to make. This particular variety is like a bite of a bun-less bacon & blue cheeseburger with a spicy kick.

You can enjoy them as appetizers, game day snacks, and party finger food. We usually make them as a pre-dinner snack.

This recipe is naturally gluten free, low carb and keto friendly.

Bacon & Blue Cheeseburger Jalapeño Poppers

Ingredients

Ingredients to make bacon and blue cheeseburger poppers on a white background with labels.

  • You can use Gorgonzola, cheddar, or American cheese, if preferred.

Prep!

Preheat your oven to 375°F.

Cut the slices of bacon in half.

Create!

Jalapeno peppers on a wood board cut in half with the seeds removed from some and a spoon with them

Cut each jalapeño pepper in half, length wise.

Using a small spoon, clean out the seeds and membrane. Set aside.

Chef’s Tip: if you want spicier poppers, leave some of the seeds and membrane.

Ground beef and blue cheese in a small skillet over a white background

In a medium skillet, over medium heat, add the ground beef and season with salt and pepper.

Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until no longer pink and thoroughly cooked through. Once the beef is cooked through, stir in the blue cheese.

Jalapeno peppers halves filled with ground beef on a wood board

Fill each pepper half with the ground beef and cheese mixture. You may have some extra mix, depending on the size of your peppers.

Jalapeno pepper halves on a wood board that are filled with ground beef and wrapped in bacon

Wrap each pepper half with a half a slice of the bacon and secure with a toothpick (the bacon will shrink as it cooks so don’t skip this step).

Jalapeno poppers on a wire rack over an aluminum foil lined baking sheet

Place the poppers on an over-proof rack over a baking sheet. I like to line the baking sheet with aluminum foil to make cleaning up much easier.

Bake for 25 minutes or until the peppers are tender.

Chef’s Tip: for crispier bacon, you can put the peppers under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.

Present!

Serve warm.

Tips and Techniques

  • If your peppers are larger, you may need a full slice of bacon per pepper instead of a half of a slice.
  • For crispier bacon, you can put the peppers under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  • Store leftover jalapeño poppers in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. Use within 5-7 days.

FAQ’s

Can You Freeze Jalapeño Poppers?

You can freeze jalapeño poppers, however the texture may change when reheated. Store jalapeño poppers, tightly wrapped, in the freezer for up to 6 months for the best results.

There is nothing about this recipe that I don’t love. We actually have a bumper crop of poblano peppers, and I think I might make it with them. Thank you.

I love Jalapeno poppers but I make them vegetarian. Thanks for reminding me that I haven’t made them in a while. I can already think of these as Mummies Jalapeno Poppers 🙂
