Grilled skewers, also known as kabobs, are such an easy summer cookout favorite.

BBQ Smoked Beef Skewers are a delicious combination of smoky sausage and vegetables with a sweet barbecue sauce glaze.

The recipe is as simple as slicing the sausage, dicing the vegetables and assembling the skewers. They take about 10 minutes to grill, allowing plenty of free time to spend with family and friends during barbecues and cookouts.

Try them over rice or make a batch of Cheesy Grilled Potatoes for a complete meal.

Why This Recipe Works

This recipe is quick and easy to prepare and grill, making it perfect for busy days or entertaining guests.

You can make a small batch for a family dinner or scale it up to serve a crowd at your next gathering.

It’s also naturally low in carbs and completely gluten-free on it’s own.

Step-By-Step Instructions

Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make bbq smoked sausage kabobs on a white surface with text overlay.

  • 12 ounces beef smoked sausage (cut into 1/2-inch thick rounds): you can use turkey or traditional smoked sausage, if preferred.
  • 3 bell peppers (cut into 1-inch pieces): red, yellow, orange and/or green peppers are good to use.
  • 1 onion (cut into 1 inch pieces): yellow, red, or sweet onions all work well in this recipe.
  • 2 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce: you can use any barbecue sauce that you like. I prefer to use an easy-to-make Homemade Honey BBQ Sauce because the sweetness from the sauce pairs great with the smokiness of the sausage.

The entire recipe and instructions can be found in the recipe card at the bottom of this post. You can print the recipe from the card, if needed.

Prep!

Preheat your grill to medium-high, or 450°F. This recipe works great on indoor grills, as well.

If you plan to use wood skewers, you will need to soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before grilling.

Cut the sausage into 1/2-inch rounds and the peppers and onions into 1-inch pieces.

Create!

A plate of 4 uncooked smoked sausage and pepper skewers on a white plate.

Thread the skewers alternating the sausage, peppers, and onion.

Brush the skewers lightly with the oil and add a pinch of salt and pepper, focusing it mostly on the peppers and onions.

Place the skewers on the grill and cook 2-3 minutes or until just starting to char. Continue to rotate and baste lightly with the barbecue sauce every minute or two, until everything is charred and covered in sauce.
