After being so impressed with my first box, I decided to do another January 2018 Home Chef Meal Kit Review!
Home Chef is a meal kit subscription box. The meals are pretty straightforward to make because Home Chef does a lot of the prep work for you!
I’ll tell you all about how Home Chef works at the bottom of this post. Or, head on over to the Home Chef website to check it out for yourself. The link will automatically give you $30.00 off of your first delivery!
This week I only chose 2 meals and one smoothie.
January 2018 Home Chef Meal Kit Review #2
You can pretty much never go wrong with a good steak and potatoes meal! I also love Brussels sprouts so this entire meal was a win for me!
The prep work only consisted of cutting up the potato and Brussels sprouts.
The recipe card states that this meal takes 30-40 minutes to prepare. It took me right around 30 minutes, maybe even a little less. It was really easy to prepare and even thought it’s a meat and potatoes recipe, it was super delicious!
White Turkey Chili with Kale and Corn
I have been wanting to make a white chili for quite some time now so I’ll consider this meal “research!” I loved the unique flavors and that you can control the spice level with the included crushed red pepper.
The prep work for this meal was probably the most I’ve had to do for any Home Chef meal yet, but it was necessary. You don’t want to cut peppers and chop herbs to far ahead of time.
The recipe card states that this is an easy recipe and that it will take between 20-30 minutes to prepare. With the prep work taking close to 15 minutes (with interruptions from the kids), this one took me right around 30 minutes to prepare from start to finish.
Cranberry Orange Smoothie
I’ve been on a bit of a smoothie kick lately. I’ve also been craving cranberry-orange muffins. Obviously, I had to give this smoothie a try! It kind of tasted almost like orange-strawberry, which is fine by me!
Smoothies are super simple to make, especially when the prep work is almost all done for you already! This recipe took me right around 10 minutes, because I did have to zest and peel the orange and then puree everything for 4-6 minutes.
The smoothies are 2 servings, but I had so much extra with this recipe, that I got three!
That’s all I opted for this week. Next week I’m scheduled to receive another steak meal, another smoothie, and I’m going to try one of the salad options.
Try Home Chef
The sign up is a little confusing, but once it’s done, navigating the site is really simple.
You have to enter your email address first. Then, you’ll answer a few questions regarding your preferences for different types of meals (vegetarian, meat, seafood), dietary preferences (low carb, low calorie), and ingredients you want or need to avoid.
The next section will ask you to fill in your mailing address, which is where I started to get confused because I hadn’t chosen my meals yet. If that wasn’t confusing enough, the next section asks for your billing information.
Don’t worry! If you’ve already decided that you want to order some of the meals that are on the menu (you can check the menu at the top left of the website before signing up), you will still be able to pick and choose exactly which meals you want. You will also be able to skip any week you want, including the first week, and add on anything extra too! You can pick your meals for up to 6 weeks out, or skip the weeks you don’t want deliveries. Home Chef offers the ability to pause your account indefinitely in the account section, so there is no need to call or email should you decide this service isn’t for you.
In addition to complete meals, Home Chef offers a salad, smoothie, and fruit basket each week!
Meals are $9.95 per serving, the salad is $7.99, and the smoothies and fruit baskets are $4.95
Shipping is free for orders over $45, and up to $10 for orders less than that. Home Chef ships to 98% of the United States.
